#MoverOfTheMoment - Tanya Hornick from Brisbane

Tanya is our most recent Mover Of The Moment, she is a wife, a mother and a full-time executive manager and still manages to squeeze in some boxing, yoga, pilates and a walk or run regularly. She has a full schedule but her dedication to taking care of her health and fitness, enables her to perform her motherly and executive manager duties to her best potential. Read Tanya's inspiring story below.

My name is Tanya Hornick. I am a 38 year old wife, mum of one, and full-time executive manager. I live in Brisbane, Queensland with my husband, our five year old daughter and our dachshund. We do our best to live active and healthy lives, and our philosophy is support one another and never give up.

I am not what you would call a natural athlete, although I have been active since a young age, and could hold my own on the squash court when I was in my teens. I have “dabbled” in all kinds of fitness since adulthood, and will give pretty much anything a try.

My active and healthy life really got into gear after I had my daughter and went back to work. I found myself in the position of rushing to get myself and daughter out of the door of a morning, running from meeting to meeting at work, getting to doctor’s appointments, rushing home to get dinner ready, baths, bed, and somewhere in there trying to find quality time with my husband, before trying to prepare for the next day and collapsing in bed. After almost a year of this I realised that I was running on fumes. I needed to put myself at the top of my to do list, and take care of myself, so as to actually have enough energy and give my best self to my family, work and life. It was like what you hear a flight attendant saying “you need to put your oxygen mask on first before you help others”. I also needed to change that picture in my head of SuperWoman – lets face it we are all SuperWoman in our own unique way.

So began my active healthy journey. Over a few years, with the support of my husband and daughter (it’s a team effort), I have figured out what works for me. I enjoy HIIT, yoga, boxing, pilates, running and walking. The thing that I have really figured out is that I have to give myself time and be flexible - everything changes - instructors change, office locations change, priorities change. Whilst a routine is good, I realised that a sick child, work priorities, etc, will gazump my scheduled session from time to time, and that is ok, just reschedule and don’t beat yourself up.

Most recently I have found reformer pilates and love it - I really can’t imagine my life without it. So, every Monday and Wednesday, usually at 5am, you will find my in the reformer pilates studio, doing my best to lengthen and strengthen my muscles and relax my mind.

I came across MoveActive non slip socks when I was searching online for some funky pilates socks - that’s when I saw Jessica Baxter wearing them. Now, I rock MoveActive socks at home and the studio. My workout outfit is not complete without them!
