#MoverOfTheMoment - Ashleigh Chandra from Sydney
Ashleigh Chandra is a Neuroscience student and an avid #Mover in Sydney, New South Wales. Between her challenging studies and being her mother's carer, she has a 'No Excuses' attitude and still finds time to stay active and creative.
Thanks so much for sharing your inspirational story!
My name is Ashleigh Chandra; I am a 23-year-old student from Sydney, NSW.
I recently completed my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Sydney. (Yes, I am a huge nerd). I am currently in the middle of full time postgraduate study by research at the Save Sight Institute of Sydney Eye Hospital. Training to be a Neuroscientist is demanding, but medical research is something that I am really passionate about. I love learning.
When I am not at the lab, or studying, or thesis writing, I work as a dental assistant at an Orthodontists’ Practice, which also keeps me pretty busy.
I have been the carer for my mother, who suffers from an autoimmune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis, since 2010, I was 18 back then. It gets hard to juggle everything sometimes, but I never give up!
For me, the key to life is balance. I love being active and hanging out with friends in my down time. I always make time to release at the gym with my best friend. We do group fitness classes like body pump, boxing and body balance. I also started doing aerials silks about a year ago and absolutely fell in love. There is definitely something about hanging upside down that gives you a new perspective on how far you can push yourself. Although I don’t have a lot of time, I also like trying new things. Every Monday I go to art class where I learn to draw, paint and watercolour. Creativity is another outlet for me. I also do a lot of yoga mostly in the comfort of my own home. It really has taught me to stop and take a breath when life gets hectic!
I came across Move Active grip socks when I started at my new Aerials Studio, Aerial Fit Body, and now can’t go without them. Whether I am hanging from the silks or practicing yoga at home they have become part of my essentials! I’m obsessed!
