Wonderful Watercress!

MoveActive super green juice!

Hello to all our Movers!  We hope winter has been kind to you so far!

It's been a busy, busy time at Move with our new range of socks flying out the door, along with lots of new designs coming to life on the drafting board. Most excitingly, Move's new active wear label, 'KNEO' is getting closer and closer to full bloom.  Bring on Spring!

In between running MoveActive and taking orders from her ‘Mini Movers’ at home, our 'Mamma Move', Mel, has been sneakily training for the Mount Everest base camp, this coming October.  She's been doing a mix of Pilates, running, cross fit and altitude training, and is steadily whipping her winter body into 'Everest climbing' shape.

We think she’s looking pretty fabulous and, after watching several months of her dedication, we’ve uncovered one of her hidden winter workout weapons!  It’s none other than Liz Hurley’s favourite superfood, Watercress.

Well known for lowering the risk of cancer, watercress is a rich source of fibre, anti-oxidants, vitamin C, beta-carotene, folate, potassium, calcium, phosphorous and iron.  It’s also a great source of iodine for any slow moving thyroids!  Nutrient dense, this leafy green aids bone, eye, skin, digestive and cardiovascular health, just to name a few. It’s also cited as a miraculous hangover cure, with it’s purifying effects rapidly detoxifying any over-worked liver.

Converted, the MoveActive team have been enthusiastically throwing watercress in salads, soups and even on top of our poached eggs.  However, our absolute number 1 watercress wonder is the daily ‘green juice’ ritual.

MoveActive super green juice!

  • 50g watercress
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • A few mint leaves
  • Juice of 1 orange or 125ml fresh orange juice
  • Juice of 1 lime

Mel has an obvious inclination to dabble with kiwis (NZ hubby) but we all agree that this collaboration with watercress, mint & citrus is a mild stroke of genius.  This combination is super high in vitamin C, keeping the immune system in peak form for all those early morning training sessions.  Most importantly, it is a taste sensation, especially for a drink that is so…. er, green.

Other favourite foods on the menu in the MoveActive office are:

  • Salmon, with watercress and avocado salad
  • Quinoa, chia and banana porridge (don’t forget the cinnamon!)
  • Beetroot, watercress, broccoli and feta salad
  • Blanxart 72% dark chocolate (expensive but worth it!)

Taking inspiration from our ‘Stripy’ socks, we're striving to incorporate a rainbow’s worth of natural plant-based hues into our daily food plan. Optimal health, the way nature intended.*

Here’s to a bright and colourful weekend ahead!
